A Happy Spooktacular Halloween
Ghosts, goblins and witches! Oh my! Halloween is upon us. Hope you had a very spooktacular Halloween!
Halloween is definitely one of our favourite autumn festivities. Kenz and I have fond childhood memories during the run-up to Halloween growing up in our native California. As kids, we would visit pumpkin farms, corn mazes, carve jack-o-lanterns, and of course go trick-or-treat around the neighborhood.
With Lady Yeya now in her pre-school years, we are introducing traditions that Kenz and I loved as a child. It’s all about making memories and our own family traditions as we approach the holiday season. For us, Halloween kicks off all the fun festivities.
This year we hosted a small spooktacular Halloween Party for Lady Yeya and her little friends. Lady Yeya, dressed as Marshall, the fire marshall Dalmatian from Paw Patrol, helped her parents decorate the house with spider webs. “Skelly” and “Skeliti” the skeletons made a special appearance from the grave for this very spooktacular Halloween party.
Girls Just Wanna Have Fun
Lady Yeya’s guest list happens to be all little girls, all dressed in their adorable Halloween costumes from witches to Little Red Riding Hood. In total, there were five pre-schoolers, two babies (siblings) and eight adults. From Lawrence of Arabia to bandits, to witches, Skeletor, and Black Widow, the adults came cladded with some fun costumes too.
We had planned to have the girls watch Pixar’s Coco, which was inspired by the Mexican holiday Day of the Dead. But the plan got derailed as the girls were high on sugar and were bouncing off the walls. After a big feast of Italian meatballs and bacon wrapped pork tenderloins, we took them to the playground to burn off some energy. Then it was time for some classic Italian tiramisu before the highlight of the day: trick-o-treat.
The girls were adorable with their Halloween-themed buckets and bags, knocking on doors with Halloween decorations. The witch coven was my favourite house on the road. My neighbor went all out in transforming her front garden into a spooky graveyard. She even had a “witch slide” to drop the candy in the Halloween buckets. Her witch cackle was the best. The kids were thrilled! Meanwhile, back at homebase, Kenz did his best Skeletor impersonation repurposing his black djellaba from Morocco to greet fellow trick-or-treaters at the door.
Overall, it was a very spooktacular Halloween! Lady Yeya and friends had the best time. Until next year. Let the holiday season roll on.
