Why We Travel

Travel has always been a big part of our adult lives. Between the two of us, we have travelled to over 65 countries on every continent except Australia and Antarctica.

We caught a big travel bug after my very first international trip to Japan during my junior year at UC Berkeley. This was followed by a whirlwind post-graduation classic backpacking trip across Europe with a university friend covering so many cities I lost count. Then it was to Egypt to marvel at the ancient pyramids and monuments of pharaonic Egypt, travelling up and down the mighty Nile River to Cairo, Luxor, and Aswan with a side excursion to Sharm El Sheikh.

We then had an epic four week trip to Asia for my sister’s wedding travelling to Thailand (Bangkok and Koh Samui), Hong Kong, China (Beijing), and Cambodia (Siem Reap and Phnom Penh). I was ready to embark on my first solo trip to Peru right before graduate school, but luckily at the last minute, I was able to convince Kenz to join me on a wonderful and awe-inspiring journey to Machu Picchu as well as to Buenos Aires, Argentina where we feasted on pampas steak and far too many dulce de leche.

We would then travel to India over winter break in 2007/2008. Little did we know that when we rang in the new year at the Gateway of India in Mumbai that we would be moving to London ten months later. Travelling to India was truly an assault of the senses in every way from the smells to the sights, to the noise. On that trip, we visited Mumbai, Jodhpur, Udaipur, Ranakpur, Jaipur, Agra, Delhi, and Cochin before Kenz went to Ahmedabad to visit his grandmother and I flew back to Hong Kong to spend weekend visit with my sister.

Then the opportunity to relocate with Kenz’s job came up around March 2008. We jumped at the prospect. Kenz landed in London in October 2008, with me trailing behind until May 2009 when I finished graduate school.

Living in London affords us the endless opportunities to visit various European cities and regions, and not to mention access to multiple airports connecting us to over 300+ destinations worldwide. The world is truly your oyster.

Travelling is good for the soul. For us, you cannot put a price on the experience gained from travel. We especially love destinations with a perfect mix of culture, history, and food – countries like Thailand, Sri Lanka, South Africa, and Vietnam.  Most of all, we love a good adventure that involves overnight trekking or hiking, diving, or rafting, followed by some rest and relaxation (R&R). On our long-haul trips, we welcomed the chance to unplug and escape from the daily grind of city living; to re-charge, re-energise, and reflect upon the privilege of travel.

We look forward to sharing our travel adventures as a family and tips on travelling with young kids! Stay Tuned!
