Classic Family Fun: Zippos Circus
Attending Zippos Circus brings back nostalgic memories as an awestruck child watching stunning acrobatic moves.
It’s time for some classic family fun at Zippos Circus. I can’t remember the last time I went to see a circus show. It was definitely as a young child at the annual California State Fair with my family. Not a big fan of clowns, but was always in awe of the acrobatic moves and amazing aerial stunts by the circus performers. Attending a circus show is one of those classic childhood memories that I fondly remember. Fast forward decades later, I am taking my own daughter to experience her very first circus show at Zippos Circus.
Touring through the U.K., Zippos Circus pitches up their tent in various parks from April to October, concluding the year at Hyde Park’s Winter Wonderland. The first tour stop for Zippos Circus was at Blackheath, a vast and flat parkland in Lewisham Borough. We went to the 3pm show after a run around the playground and the Flower Garden at Greenwich Park. By coincidence, we ran into two little friends from Lady Yeya’s nursery at the playground, and then another two friends at the circus. It was lovely for her to share these special memories with her nursery friends. And together, we enjoyed the circus show.
Classic Circus Show Programme
No circus show will be complete without the classic clown duo: someone who is tall and lanky and the other short and stocky. The classic clown duo entertained the audience after each act with their bantering and clumsy moves. Throughout the two hour circus show, there were a series of aerial acrobatic performances, all who were spinning off a rope from the ceiling. Just watching the performers spin like a vortex makes me dizzy.
Then there were tumblers, jugglers, breakdancers, dance troupes, and even fire limbo. The closing act was the “Globe of Death” featuring Lucius and his team of motorcycle daredevils. In coordinated and synchronised moves, four bikes rev up for a jaw-dropping stunt inside a steel “globe” without crashing into each other.
Zippos Circus was an exhilarating afternoon of pure heart-thumping entertainment for the whole family. And of course, the circus is always better with little friends and a big tub of popcorn. I am happy to share this classic childhood memory with my sweet daughter.
