Myles Smith: We Were Never Strangers Tour

A pleasure to follow this rising star that is Myles Smith in his music journey from a small town Luton boy to stardom.

Little did I know then at Dave Matthews Band’s concert in April 2024 that his supporting act would go on and win the 2025 BRIT “Rising Star” Award. What an incredible year for the Stargazing hitmaker Myles Smith! Whilst sitting in the gorgeous Royal Albert Hall listening to “Solo,” I thought this singer is really talented and I look forward to following his journey. Myles was joking then that nobody knows who I am. But fast forward 12 months later, Myles – everyone knows who you are.  Myles’ style of music blends folk, Americana, pop, and alternative indie. Think Coldplay meets Mumford & Son meets Ed Sheeran. Beautiful song writing with sweet melodies.

One Amazing Year

It has been inspiring to follow his music journey over the last twelve months. Born in Luton and raised by a single mother, Myles taught himself how to play the guitar, developing a love for music and songwriting. He would then go on to earn a BA sociology from University of Nottingham and subsequently take a 9-5 corporate job. As a side gig, he would also perform at parties and open-mics nights at local pubs. Thanks to social media, Myles was later discovered on TikTok, and landed a record deal with Sony Music. Since then his “The Not So Lonely” and “Slightly Less Lonely” Tour took him across the U.S., Australia, Europe, and South Africa. I was thrilled that he was touring through my hometown of Sacramento, CA and bought two tickets for my good friend to see him at a very small venue in Mid-town last September for her birthday.

Myles then announced his new “We were Never Stranger” UK and Europe tour dates with two London concerts at the O2 Shephard’s Bush selling out instantly. I managed to snag four tickets for both Wednesday and Friday’s concert. But because I am a tired middle-aged mum, I offloaded the Wednesday tickets to some school moms who are also big fans of Myles Smith. But I kept the Friday night show so I can recover on Saturday morning. Sad but true. The Wednesday night concert went ahead as planned, but Myles rescheduled his Friday night concert four weeks later (on a Wednesday night!) and to a bigger venue at Eventim Apollo. Why? Well, it turns out that Myles was nominated for several categories and due to perform at the 2025 BRIT Awards. An amazing year for this young and rising talent, indeed!

With four tickets in  hand, I invited some of my favourite mum friends to join me for a night out. It was a beautiful spring evening and we enjoyed a lovely dinner at Sam’s Riverside with a beautiful view of Hammersmith Bridge. The ecstatic queue outside Eventim Apollo snaked around the venue down Queen Caroline Street. Myles’ older brother joined on stage for an original poem on fatherhood, leading to Myles’ next song “My First Heartbreak.” This is a deeply personal song about his father leaving when he was young. He performed this song at DMB’s concert last year and was nearly reduced to tears. But at this concert, he felt more comfortable sharing his “heartbreak.” Then special guest, Dan Smith of Bastille, joined Myles on stage for “Nice to Meet You” and Bastille’s hit song “Pompeii,” getting the crowd on their feet. Thank you sweet friends for sharing this beautiful evening with great company and live music. Myles Smith will be supporting Ed Sheeran on his European tour this summer.
