Dog-Sitting Duties Calls for a Walk in Richmond Park

A walk through Richmond Park in the leafy corner of southwest London is what the vet (and doctor) ordered!

Summer is in full swing which means it is the holiday travel season! If you have a beloved four-legged furry family member, then there’s another added layer of logistics. Who will look after the pooch when we are on holiday? Lucky for us, we have a lovely network of friends to swap dog-sitting duties with. And it is a huge lifesaver knowing that our beloved Buddy boy is in good care.

This week, we are hosting Coco the Cockpoo whilst our friends are away for the week. She is a delightful blondie full of energy and loves to play fetch. With two dogs in tow, we went to Richmond Park because it’s what the vet ordered for two geriatric doggies.

Richmond Hill
Exploring Richmond Town

Leafy Richmond is an affluent neighborhood with historic mansion houses, riverside views, and the vast Richmond Park, one of London’s Royal Parks. You know it’s a well-heeled area when you have Gails, Waitrose, Ottolenghi, Ole & Steen, and the Ivy Restaurant on your high street. Plus retailers such as Anthropologie, Oliver Bonas, and Reiss. It is a beautiful neighborhood and definitely worth a visit, combined with a visit to Kew Gardens.

Richmond’s riverside area along the Thames Towpath is also charming with plenty of restaurants and pubs such as the White Cross, Scotts Richmond, Peggy Jean, and Gaucho. With the dogs and kiddo, we were looking for a casual eatery or picking up provisions at Waitrose for a picnic in the Riverdale Gardens. We stumbled upon Stein’s Richmond, a Bavarian restaurant serving tasty German classics of bratwursts, pretzels and of course German beer. Stein’s sits on a prime location right on the river with a large outdoor beer garden. If you didn’t know better, you might just think you’re in Germany.

Wandering through Richmond Park

Post-lunch, it was time for a walk to Richmond Park via the Petersham Meadows. But first, a stop at Petersham Playground to enjoy the newly-renovated play park with sunken trampoline, multiple slides, climbing frames, and wooden frames. It is a lovely playground.

We were on a deer-hunt as it is one of Lady Yeya’s favourite animals. But unfortunately we couldn’t spot any, maybe it is because it is still birthing season. No lucky unfortunately. We followed the path through to King Henry’s Mound and continued on to Richmond Hill for beautiful views of the River Thames. A short explore through the lovely Terrace Gardens to the Bulbous Betty status and back on the high street in search for some  gelato at Venchi.

And for all the fans of Ted Lasso, don’t forget to stop by the Ted Lasso Store on 4 Paved Court!
