A Crystal Anniversary Celebration at Taku

Cheers to our 15th ‘crystal’ anniversary! Crystal symbolises the lightness, clarity, and durability of love and affection. To many more anniversaries. 

Kenz and I celebrated our “crystal” 15th wedding anniversary this week. It was a beautiful autumn day. I was smiling ear to ear, reminiscing on that gorgeous October day when we got married at San Francisco City Hall in a civil ceremony with just immediate family.

Celebration Lunch at Taku

15 years later on our crystal anniversary, we celebrate in the city we have called home for the past 15 years. As sushi-lovers, Kenz and I had a leisurely lunch at Taku, a Michelin-star Japanese restaurant tucked away on Albemarle Street in Mayfair. Taku is intimate with only 16 seats along the bar where all guests enjoy the same 16-course omakase tasting menu. Our fellow diners were mostly couples, a group of tourists from Brazil, and one solo diner visiting from Japan.

I wasn’t diligent about taking notes, but every dish was seafood based with fresh fish and caviar from Cornwall, Spain and Portugal. All dishes were beautifully executed and presented using fine tweezers to add garnishes. Chef Ng led the nigiri course of about nine different sashimi. It was a wonderful experience as we look back on 15 years of marriage. There were highs and lows, but through it all we supported each other with unconditional love and affection. To end the day, Kenz and I made a stop at Quaglino’s for a celebratory drink and live music before heading home.

Crystal on our Crystal Anniversary 

Sparkling and bright, crystal symbolises clarity and durability of 15 years of love and affection. To mark our crystal anniversary, we upgraded our glassware with six stemless wine glasses from Waterford’s Elegance collection plus two beer steins as a complimentary gift. We also exchanged gifts of crystal or gemstone bracelets for the occasion. I picked out a Thomas Sabo Tiger Eye bracelet, a healing stone for strength and confidence, for my sweet husband. Kenz picked out a Halcyon Day hammered torque bracelet in Aquamarine,  which is also my birthstone.
