Days Out: The Mount Winery

We needed to get out of the neighbourhood and decided to venture out to the Kentish countryside for a little day outing. Amongst the aforementioned list, us parents selfishly picked a kid-friendly country walk with a stop at The Mount Winery in Shoreham (can you blame us?). Well, we probably have a few more years until wineries aren’t fun with the kids. Lucky for us, Lady Yeya gave us the afternoon off by taking a nap in her Bugaboo Bee. The 35-minute train journey, country walk, and watching Dadda fly the drone must have tired her out. Kenz and I enjoyed a peaceful lunch with a glass of wine in the outdoor seating area.

The Mount Winery

The Mount Winery is a beautiful place with an airy main restaurant with floor-to-ceiling window; picnic blankets spade out on the beautifully manicured lawn; and the Flint Bar, the outdoor terrace area overlooking the vineyard. With the scenery and chilled vibe, it was like we were in the wine country in my native California. Throughout the afternoon, walkers and cyclists casually popped by for some refreshments before continuing on their journey. It is very dog-friendly too with water bowls and free doggy treats for our beloved furbabies.

Shoreham village is as idyllic as it gets with a few traditional pubs along the High Street and a shady pathway along the River Darent, perfect for a leisurely stroll. There are also many off-road local walks through miles of fields and views over the Darent Valley. For families with good walkers, follow the Darent Valley Path north towards the amazing lavender fields at Castle Farm and to Lullingstone Country Park for a great family day out. We’ll just have to wait until Lady Yeya is just a bit older to enjoy all the ancient castles and longer walks around the area. In the meantime, Mum and Dad are happy to make the short trip to visit this lovely winery again sans kiddo.

Happy Summer!
