Iberostar Lanzarote Park: A Family-Friendly & Relaxed Stay
The Iberostar Lanzarote Park is perfect family holiday in a beautiful surrounding with buckets of fun for the young children.
Of the three main resort areas in Lanzarote, we picked the southern shore of Playa Blanca. It is supposedly the sunniest and least windiest corner of Lanzarote. Plus Playa Blanca has a relaxed, upmarket vibe with beautiful mountain and ocean sceneries. Resorts in Playa Blanca occupy the seafront along the promenade, all which are a striking distance to a local beach. The five-star Iberostar Lanzarote Park was our home for our week-long New Years winter sun getaway. It was a great stay with the perfect mix of activities and relaxation.
The Hotel & Amenities
Upon entering the lobby at the Iberostar Lanzarote Park, there are sweeping views of the pool area, the Atlantic Ocean and Fuerteventura. Drawing on inspiration from the La Geria wine region, the hotel consists of three semicircles “zoco” buildings seamlessly connected together. From left to right, the first “zoco” is the family area; the middle “zoco” is the main building, and the third “zoco” is the adults-only “Star Prestige” section, all of which are ocean-facing so guests can enjoy panoramic views of the Atlantic Ocean. Under Cesar Manrique’s vision, the hotel complex has white-washed walls with accents of seafoam green to add a touch of sophistication and serenity.
In the main “zoco,” there are three three pools including the infinity pool, a central pool and a children pool with ample sun loungers. The outdoor terrace restaurant Mirador serves up classic lunch specials such as BLTs and salads. The main restaurant Papagayo has an amazing breakfast buffet, but the dinner buffet is exceptional with everything imaginable from lobster, caviar, king prawns, octopus, and tapas.
There is also the SPA Sensations where we indulged in a couple Swedish massage treatments. If you visit during high season, it is advisable to book your treatments in advance. Playa Flamingo is only a stone’s throw away with calm waters for a fun afternoon on sandy golden beaches. In keeping with its commitment to be plastic-free, the Iberostar Lanzarote Park has water refilling stations throughout the hotel for guests to use.
The downside is the parking lot is small, but there is plenty of off-street parking. Wifi is generally good, however, there are a few ‘dead zones’ in our room.
Comfortable Rooms with All the Mod Cons
The hotel kindly upgraded us to a spacious deluxe room with a massive bathroom and walk-in shower on the first floor of the main “zoco.” Minimalist yet stylish, the modern room had everything you need for a luxe stay including robes, slippers, and mini-bar. My favourite feature was the sun-drenched extra-large terrace overlooking the pool and ocean. It was a perfect place for people-watching from the sleek glass wall, or chill out in the evenings with a glass of Lanzarote white wine. Daily housekeeping kept the room spotless and sand free.
Star Camp Kids Club with Starky & Stella
Iberostar Lanzarote Park is geared up with families with young children. There is a heated children’s pool in the main “zoco” and an AquaFun Water Park featuring eight water slides and a giant splash bucket in the family “zoco.” A lovely playground with a sand pit overlooks the ocean, perfect for toddlers who need to get their energy out.
The “Star Camp” Kids Club has an engaging and fun-filled schedule of activities ranging from face-painting, volcano-making, and scavenger hunt. The children adore the staff who are energetic, entertaining, and fun. It was amusing watching the kids run across the pool on the “magic carpet.”
Family Friendly Entertainment
Every evening at 8pm, there is a mini-disco featuring “Starky and Stella” that goes well past bedtime. There was also nightly entertainment, either a magic or acrobatic show from 9:15-10pm. Yes, we are indeed on “Spanish time.” And that’s perfectly fine as it was good fun for the whole family. If mini-disco is not your jam, there is a sports bar next door where you can watch the Premier League. All activities are available on the Iberostar App, along with a short travel guides and a playlist of the Starky and Stella’s favourite songs!
The hotel also put on a fantastic programme for New Year Eve with live entertainment, a jazz band, acrobatic performers and free-flowing Cava. In true Spanish fashion, the party went on to 2am! Needless to say, there were a few sore heads at breakfast the next morning.
Overall we had a fantastic stay at the Iberostar Lanzarote Park. It was the perfect base to explore the otherworldly volcanic landscape of Timanfaya, Cesar Manrique’s home, and El Golfo. There are also numerous restaurants within walking distance from the hotel if you want to explore the local dining scene.
