Bali Diaries: A Magical Stay at Maya Ubud

Set on a hillside surrounded by lush tropical forest, Maya Ubud is a magical luxury family-friendly resort.

We had the most magical stay at Maya Ubud. Only ten minutes drive from central Ubud, yet the resort feels hidden in nature along a steep river ravine. It’s a peaceful sanctuary home away from home. Spread across 10 hectares of tropical landscape with clusters of individual thatched villas, Maya Ubud has all the amenities for a magical family-friendly stay.

The Resort and Private Villas with a Plunge Pool

The grounds are expansive and beautifully maintained. Many winding paths around the resort that lead to tranquil pools by the ravine, open-air pavilions, and riverside yoga decks. The staff kindly upgraded us to a private villa with a plunge pool and an outdoor shower creating a seamless indoor-outdoor experience. Rustic by design with a traditional thatched roof, the villa with a massive bathroom is spacious for a small family. Towels and water were replenished daily and everything on the property is immaculate.

Resort Amenities and Activities

There are two infinity pools on the property for a refreshing dip. The main pool with a shallow area for kids is near the front with jungle views. The adults-only infinity pool  and the spa area is near the river ravine, accessible only via the lift. For those who enjoy being active on holiday, guests enjoy complimentary morning yoga, daily nature walks, and gym access.

We took full advantage of the  Kids’s Club (8:30am – 1:30pm), dropping Lady Yeya off after breakfast so we could chill by the adults pool. She enjoyed meeting new friends, making Balinese crafts, and having her own chill out time.

Cultural Programme

There is daily cultural dining at Mayasari Restaurant, featuring nightly performances that usually starts at 8pm. Our stay at the Maya Ubud coincided with a full moon where the hotel organises a special full moon gala dinner to mark the auspicious occasion. For dinner, it was all about the famous Babi Guling (Balinese suckling pig) which is roasted until the skin is extra crispy and the meat is tender. It was a lovely and memorable cultural experience with the Kecek Ramayana show.
