The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee

It’s been 70 years since Queen Elizabeth II ascended to the British throne! And it’s time to celebrate this remarkable occasion: The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

The Queen makes history as the longest serving monarch in British history, celebrating 70 years on the throne. At 96 years old, HM The Queen lived through numerous watershed moments in history. From World War II to the pandemic, she served her country with grace throughout her remarkable reign as the Queen. To celebrate her Platinum Jubilee, families and friends come together over the four-day weekend to mark this historic occasion.

It’s a celebratory atmosphere around Central London with Union Jack flags proudly on display. Under the glorious sunshine, we decided to check out all the festivities in the fashionable Royal Borough of Kensington & Chelsea.

Chelsea in Bloom: British Icons

The first thing on the agenda is see the Chelsea in Bloom floral installation around the neighborhood. Running in parallel with the Chelsea Flower Show, this year’s theme celebrates British icons to mark the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. Nearly 100 participating retail shops had gorgeous floral art displays ranging from iconic red royal mailboxes, telephone booths, and double decker buses to the Crown Jewels . All the installations were stunning and Instagram-worthy. Jo Malone’s shop was my favourite with a lovely display of  purple-themed flowers and three Corgis, the Queen’s favourite breed. There were other displays worth swooning over including Stick’N’Sushi’s tradition guard and Beverbrook Townhouse’s RAF display.

Also part of Chelsea in Bloom were nine central displays to celebrate the best of British culture. Personal favourites were the Queen’s Head at Sloane Square, the iconic floral Mini-Cooper on King’s Road, and Clarence the Corgi on the corner of Cadogan Place. Down the Rabbit Hole is a stunning tunnel display from the classic Alice in Wonderland. The last stop at the Duke of York Square is always a delight with a atmospheric vibe. It is a great place for people-watching and celebrity-spotting.

Jubilee Egg Trail: Eggs of an Era

Last, there is also free public art “Jubilee Egg Trail”  to celebrate the Queen’s 70 year reign. The seven ‘Eggs of an Era’ will be auctioned off with proceeds supporting the Elephant Family’s conservation work. Each egg, designed by a different artist, has varying themes from the 70s, Flower Power of the 60s, and British pop of the 80s. Inspired by the Faberge eggs in royal blue, ‘The Queen and Her Kings’ is a tribute to HM and future heirs to the throne.

There’s so much to see and enjoy around Chelsea, and not to mention some serious retail therapy if you dare. But let’s take a moment and congratulate HM The Queen for 70 remarkable years, a true icon in British history. God Save the Queen.
