Eight Is Great: A Pokémon Birthday Bowling Bash

A Pokemon Bowling Bash to celebrate “Eight is Great” birthday! 

Turning eight is a milestone worth celebrating, and this year Lady Yeya marked it with a Pokémon‑themed bowling party—because eight is great, and so is she. It’s hard to believe how quickly the years have flown by. It feels like only yesterday she arrived in the quiet hours of the night. And now here she is: bright, funny, curious, and officially eight years old. Watching her grow has been one of our greatest joys and blessings.

A Half‑Term Birthday Advantage

One of the perks of having a February birthday is that it often falls during half‑term, which means more time, more friends, and more fun. This year we organised a small but lively bowling bash at Vintners Lanes in Greenwich for eight excited kiddos—perfectly on theme for turning eight.

As always, we created a themed birthday set‑up for photos, and this year’s choice was an easy one. With Pokémon celebrating its 30th anniversary, Lady Yeya decided her party should honour the world of Pikachu, Poké Balls, and endless adventures. Fans around the globe are marking three decades of friendship, exploration, and collecting, so it felt like the perfect moment to join in the celebration.

Birthday Bowling at Vintners Lanes, Greenwich

Vintners Lanes is a charming little spot tucked just outside Greenwich station. Affiliated with Davy’s Wine Bar, it blends the cosy feel of a pub with the fun of a six‑lane bowling alley. It’s an ideal venue for birthdays, team gatherings, or any excuse to enjoy good food, good company, and a bit of friendly competition.

The birthday package included:

• 1 hour of bowling
• 1 hour of pizza, squash and ice cream 
• Bring your own cake and candles

Vintners Lane has a relaxed, family‑friendly atmosphere, at least during the day. Because it was a quiet Friday afternoon, the manager kindly let us stay an extra hour. The adults enjoyed catching up over nibbles and wine, while the kids threw themselves wholeheartedly into a very competitive bowling match. Laughter, cheering, and the occasional dramatic victory dance filled the room.

Celebrating Pokémon’s 30th Anniversary

No themed party is complete without themed goodies. Each child received a Pokémon birthday bag filled with:

• A Pokémon t‑shirt
• A Pokémon puzzle book
• The coveted pack of Pokémon Trading Card

Finding the Pokémon trading cards turned out to be more challenging than expected. Demand has surged thanks to adults rediscovering the hobby they loved in the late ’90s and early 2000s. With huge demand means a price hike as well. Thankfully, Kenz managed to track down a box from a wholesaler—an absolute win, considering how quickly they disappear from shelves.

Lady Yeya, may your eighth year be filled with new friendships, bold adventures, belly laughs, and moments that make your heart feel full. You bring so much joy into our lives, and we are endlessly proud of the person you are becoming.
