Day Trip to Box Hill, Surrey
Looking for a little adventure outside of London, Box Hill in Surrey is a perfect day trip for a relaxing walk, fresh country air, and a glass of wine!
It’s been a while since we did an excursion to the English countryside. So on a beautiful summer day, we took the family for a little adventure to Box Hill in Surrey.

Getting there from Waterloo station to Box Hill & Westhumble Station is easy. But that means it is a steep 20 minute hike across little stepping stones to Box Hill. On top, fantastic views of the Surrey countryside awaits you at Box Hill View Point. For those who need a comfort break, Box Hill Cafe is a perfect stop for coffee and cakes. It is a very popular stop amongst cyclists coming up Zig Zag Road. In fact, there was a cycling event here as part of the London 2012 Olympics.

The Natural Play Trail
The Box Hill Natural Play Trail is an awesome 2-mile circular walk through the woods, filled with fun things to climb, balance on, and explore. Think of it as a natural playground in the forest. There are wooden balance beams, stepping logs, tree trunk tunnels, mini dens, climbing logs. Under the refreshing foliage, the trail is completely flat, wide, and buggy-friendly. A perfect place to explore and immerse yourself in nature. The Natural Play Trail at Box Hill is the perfect place to get outside, burn off some energy, and enjoy nature.

Denbies Winery
After the walk, it is time for some lunch. Across the road is the lovely Denbies Winery. Apparently, it is one of England’s largest wine estates with an on-site hotel and several restaurants including the casual canteen-style Conservatory Restaurant. Over the summer months, they have a “Hatch on the Lawn”, a marquee serving some tasty pizzas with a bar serving wine and beers. It is super dog-friendly and family-friendly. Unfortunately, I didn’t have time for any wine-tasting but bought two bottles of Bacchus white to enjoy at home.
A lovely day out to enjoy the beautiful Surrey countryside, fresh air, and a bit of wine (for mum!).
