Happy New School Year: Bring on Y2

Goodbye summer, hello new year school. Bring on Y2!

With the end of summer, it is time for the new school year! Another year of growth, learning, enrichment, and fun in Y2.

Goodbye Summer

They say we only have 18 summers with our kids so make the most of it. Summer started off on a high note with my sister and her family visiting from Hong Kong. Although it feels like ages ago now, Lisbon and Cascais were both lovely. It was a perfect mix of beach, city, and culture in Portugal’s compact capital city.

This summer, the glorious weather in London did not disappoint. We took every opportunity to enjoy alfresco dining, BBQs and Ooni pizza parties in the garden. We are also grateful to see out-of-town friends in London, playing tourists with them around town.

Lady Yeya attended different weekly day camps — multi-sports, art-and-crafts, and Spanish camps with her friends. The parents organised a few sleepovers which meant we were all able to enjoy a few evenings out. Kenz and I had lovely meals at Oma, a new modern-Greek restaurant and Camille, a rustic French bistro, both located in Borough Market. We were way too old to enjoy the trendy scenes of Shoreditch, but had a great time at Lahpet for tasty Burmese food. A few moms got together to enjoy our new local wine bar. Together with another family, we saw Mrs. Doubtfire as part of Kids Week. We had many afternoons frolicking around the local parks, catching up with neighbours and friends. We continued weekly Sunday karate lessons and hitting up food markets.

Back to a Normal Routine

We are happy to resume a normal school routine even if it means that we are up an hour early. I don’t know about other parents but Lady Yeya was becoming more feral by the day. A lack of routine, late bedtimes, summer heat, and no discipline is a recipe for unruly kids!

Like previous summers, the Class Reps organised a Back-to-School Picnic ahead of the new school year for the children. Unlike last year, there are no new families joining the school this year. It was nice to see the Head of the Junior School back from her maternity leave at Parents Evening. Kids were all happy at the school gates, all a little taller and all excited for the new school year!

Welcome back routine, structure, and discipline. We have missed you. Have a great school year kiddos and parents!
