Happy Mother’s Day 2023

Wishing all the lovely mums a very happy (UK) Mother’s Day and an extra hug for those who find today difficult.

It’s Mothering Sunday today. Happy Mother’s Day to all the lovely mums. This morning Lady Yeya woke up with such excitement, yelling out “Happy Mother’s Day!” She gave me a pasta necklace with a heart pendant handmade with love. My dear daughter. You are my biggest blessing; the best gift and I am honoured to be your mother.

Mother's Day
Sunday Roast

We always celebrate US Mother’s Day in May when flowers are in bloom and the weather is nicer. As it was my birthday recently,  I told Kenz not to make a big fuss about UK Mother’s Day. I was happy with a low key day with a family walk and a trip to the local park. Then one of my mum friend invited us over for a Sunday Roast to mark the occasion. We gladly accepted and had a lovely afternoon over a very delicious leg of lamb with all the classic sides. I took a bottle of Ruinart and made a Guinness chocolate cake to celebrate all things motherhood. I am very grateful for the afternoon surrounded by beautiful food, beautiful friends, and my little family.

An extra hug to those who find today especially difficult. This past week also marks 8 years since my mother passed away from pancreatic cancer. I think of her often, but I find Mother’s Day emotionally draining as I reflect on my strained relationship with my mother. If you too find Mother’s Day difficult, here is an  extra hug for you. Be kind to yourself and surround yourself with loved ones who appreciate you.

Sending love to all the mums on UK Mother’s Day. Hope you had a wonderful day because you truly deserve it.
