Halloween, Diwali, Bonfire Night, Oh My!
This year Halloween and Diwali coincided on the same day, then followed by Bonfire Night which makes for a fun-filled weekend of fireworks, sparklers, and lots of sweets.
We love, love, love the whole month of October. It’s a fun month of family birthdays, anniversaries, Diwali, and of course Halloween. This month, we also welcomed a new addition to the family with the arrival of our baby niece. Lady Yeya is no longer the ‘baby’ in the family and so happy to be a big cousin.
ComicCon London
Like her parents, Lady Yeya adores all things Halloween-related. For a third year, Lady Yeya joins her Dad and friend to the October edition of ComicCon London. Much to her father’s delight, she dressed as the Star Wars character Ahsoka Tano, the Padawan learner to Anakin Skywalker and a hero of the Clone Wars. Yes, my daughter is a little clone of her father in looks, mannerisms, and interests! She is into everything Marvel and DC, Super Mario, Pokemon, Harry Potter, StarWars, and stuffy toys. Although it was exceptionally busy at ComicCon London, the kids had a great time!
Half-Term Halloween Fun
Halloween landed over half-term break this year. In previous years, we went away to Madeira or Sitges for some autumnal sun. But this year, we stayed in London. Instead, we hosted our ex-Londoner friends who moved to Barcelona about 1.5 years ago. Last October, we stayed with them for a few nights in Barcelona. This year, we returned the favour. It was a lovely week catching up with friends, watching horror movies, and carving Halloween pumpkins. The kids, who have known each other since nursery, had a blast with an ‘extended’ sleepover/playdate and went to holiday camp together.
Every Halloween, we always look forward to trick-o-treaters. Kenz goes overboard with copious amounts of Halloween treats for the kids. We hosted a small Halloween bash with our visitors and a few local friends. On the menu was a Texan-themed meal of red chili con carne, mac and cheese, and guacamole. The kids gather together for a photo op with Darth Vader before heading out for some Trick-o-Treat fun on the road. Back at homebase, Darth Vader delighted the children as we handed out Halloween candy.
Happy Diwali
As Diwali landed on Halloween this year, it was only appropriate to celebrate the occasion with a bonfire and sparklers. The weather was relatively mild, so Kenz put on a huge bonfire on the Solo Stove. For added extra fun, the kids roasted marshmallows for some smores and had a few rounds of playing with sparklers. To end the evening, the kids picked a fitting movie as we segue into the next holiday season: The Nightmare Before Christmas!
Remember, remember the 5th of November
Yes, it is Guy Fawkes Night! And for my fellow American compatriots, remember, remember, the 5th of November is also Election Night. After a busy week of hosting friends and Halloween, we had a very low-key Bonfire Night. My pyromaniac dear husband insisted on a Bonfire Fire and pizza, alongside sweets from Halloween and Diwali. And when we wake on Wednesday, we’ll have a new US president! Remember, remember… to go out and vote!
What a week, to say the least. Halloween, Diwali, and Bonfire Night, Oh My!
