Halloween at Kew Gardens: A Spooktacular Family Adventure
Beyond the beautiful botanical gardens, Halloween at Kew Gardens transform into a land of ghouls and ghosts for some spooktacular family fun.
There’s something magical about Kew Gardens in autumn. The trees put on a spectacular show of red, orange, and golden leaves, making every corner look like a postcard. It had been a few years since our last visit. My then-4 year old was only interested in the Children’s Garden and the Gruffalo Trail. But now Lady Yeya has a much stronger appreciation for unique flora and fauna, pointing out cacti and carnivorous plants. If only they weren’t so far from us, I’d happily visit more often! Such a beautiful place in this corner of southwest London.
As a family who loves all things spooky, we were especially excited about Halloween at Kew Gardens. But before the ghosts and ghouls came out to play, we arrived a few hours early to enjoy the gardens in the autumnal daylight.

Exploring Kew Gardens Before Dusk
We skipped, hopped, and jumped between the Palm House, Princess of Wales Conservatory, and Temperate House, discovering an incredible collection of plants from tropical rainforests to arid deserts. It was like taking a botanical world tour without needing to pack a suitcase. Before dusk, we made our way to the Treetop Walkway for a leisurely stroll among the treetops. As the sun began to set, the peaceful gardens took on a mysterious atmosphere. Little did we know what was waiting for us after dark!

Spooky Fun at Halloween at Kew Gardens
Running from 16 October to 1 November 2026, Halloween at Kew transforms the gardens into a 1.5km illuminated trail filled with live characters, eerie encounters, and plenty of Halloween magic. We re-entered around 6:15pm, just as the sun was setting. Following the signs for Halloween at Kew, we ventured into the darkness, ready for a night of spooky surprises.
And there were plenty! Lady Yeya’s heart was thumping more than once. Let’s just say some of those creepy characters were very good at their jobs.

Spooky Encounters Along the Trail
The trail featured a variety of Halloween-themed scenes, each with its own frightful surprises:
- Mummies in Egypt – Ancient Egypt with a spooky twist.
